The
Royal Ontario Museum (ROM),
Canada's largest museum of natural history and human
cultures, was created in 1912. Today, the ROM holds
five million objects in its collections, comprising
galleries of art, archaeology and science. Visitors
can come face-to-face with a T-Rex in the popular
Dinosaur Gallery, explore the evolution of style in
Europe and take a digital tour of ancient Egypt all
in one day. The ROM is currently undergoing a major
expansion and restoration project, Renaissance ROM,
which will bring to life bold new architecture by
Daniel Libeskind and allow the display of more
collections in new and renovated galleries. The ROM
will remain open during this construction period
(until December 2006), offering an intriguing lineup
of exhibitions from the world's leading museums.
The ROM is located in the
heart of downtown Toronto, at Bloor Street West and
Avenue Road, by the Museum subway stop. The ROM is
open seven days a week year-round, with the
exception of December 25 and January 1. Hours of
operation are: Daily, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., except
Friday, from10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Admission rates
will vary according to the program of major
exhibitions. During ROM Friday Nights (4:30 -
9:30pm), there is free admission to permanent
